Types of Loft Conversions

The most popular and well-known of all conversions, dormers consist of box-shaped additions which are inserted into one side of a pitched roof. With vertical sides and flush windows, they can be completed with either pitched roofs to match, or flat surfaces.


These are created by removing the hipped angle from a roof and extending the structure to meet the gable end of the property. This creates additional head and floor space at one end, making it an ideal location for spacious access and bathroom facilities.


Popular with London townhouses, mansard roofs must slope back at an angle of 72° whilst housing one or more dormer windows. They offer the most floor space as they are, basically, an entirely new level constructed on top of an existing property.
